[Edaily Reporter KIM EUNG-TAE ] Global beauty company APR(278470)has scientifically proven the potential efficacy of its beauty devices in treating hair loss using its core technology. APR plans to expand the research results based on its high-frequency devices into a platform technology applicable across the fields of hair, scalp, and hair loss. (Photo courtesy of APR) APR announced on the 13th that research findings—conducted through a joint industry-academic study—on improving scalp health and treating androgenetic alopecia using radiofrequency (RF) microporation technology have been published in the international academic journal *Pharmaceutics*. The research team evaluated, using an animal model, the extent to which the skin delivery and hair regeneration effects of topically applied minoxidil (MNX) were enhanced by utilizing the radiofrequency microporation technology applied to the Air Shot mode of APR’s home beauty DEVICE, the “MediCube Age-R Booster Pro X2.” High-frequency microporation is a technology that uses precisely controlled high-frequency energy to form temporary microchannels in the scalp’s stratum corneum, thereby helping the active ingredients in topical applications to be absorbed more efficiently into the skin. According to preclinical study results, when high-frequency microporation was used in combination with minoxidil, the amount of minoxidil deposited in the epidermis and dermis increased by up to 2.4 times compared to topical application alone. Additionally, in an animal model of androgenetic alopecia, hair coverage, length, and thickness showed significant improvements. The company explains that since the core of this technology lies in technically overcoming the delivery limitations of existing topical treatments, it is expected to serve as a new alternative for women and others who face restrictions on taking oral hair loss medications. Oral treatments containing finasteride—widely used for male pattern hair loss—are strictly prohibited for women of childbearing age due to risks such as fetal malformations in male fetuses. Consequently, minoxidil—applied directly to the scalp—is recommended as the primary pharmacological treatment for female-pattern hair loss. However, topical treatments like minoxidil have the drawback of struggling to penetrate sufficiently into the skin and the area surrounding the hair follicles; therefore, ensuring that the active ingredient reaches the target site in adequate amounts has long been identified as a key area for improvement. APR plans to continuously verify the applicability, efficacy, and safety of its platform technology in the field of hair loss treatment through additional clinical studies in the future, and to secure sufficient clinical evidence to usher in a new paradigm in the scalp and hair care market. An APR official stated, “We will continue to accelerate the development of new technologies based on our differentiated R&D competitiveness and strive to introduce innovative products that incorporate these technologies.” Meanwhile, APR is expanding its business scope into the hair care market, building on its existing cosmetics business. As demand for hair care products becomes increasingly evident in global markets such as the United States, the company’s strategy is to cultivate hair care products as a new growth engine.
