[Edaily Reporter Oh Hee-na ] Data from the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) will be used in a video game inspired by the classic novel *The Legend of Jeon Woo-chi*. The goal is to provide high-quality tourism images and video data to ensure that Korea’s natural landscapes and culture are realistically rendered within the game.

The Korea Tourism Organization and Nexon Games announced on the 14th that they had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the 11th at the KTO’s Seoul Center to collaborate on the development of K-content. The KTO will provide Nexon Games with approximately 71,000 high-quality photos and videos of Korean tourism destinations.
This agreement was initiated to provide the KTO’s high-quality tourism image and video data—a key resource for game development—from the earliest stages of development, ensuring that Korea’s nature and culture are realistically portrayed within the games. Accordingly, the Korea Tourism Organization will share high-quality tourism data—which is difficult for the private sector to obtain—with Nexon Games, and Nexon Games plans to utilize this data to build the backdrop for its new Joseon-era fantasy action-adventure game currently in development, “Woochi the Wayfarer.” “Woochi the Wayfarer” is a new action-adventure game from Nexon Games inspired by the classic Korean novel “The Story of Jeon Woo-chi.”
The data provided by the Corporation consists of nationwide tourism images and videos included in the government’s “Top 100 AI and High-Value Data” list. This verified data—captured by experts and directly inspected and managed by the Corporation—is characterized by its accuracy and reliability. This is particularly significant because it allows for the precise representation of Korea’s authentic essence within the game’s virtual space, free from distortion or error.
Building on this agreement, the two companies plan to continuously explore new opportunities for tourism marketing utilizing K-games. They will collaborate to effectively showcase Korea’s appeal to global users who experience the country’s natural landscapes and cultural heritage through the game, with the ultimate goal of encouraging actual visits to Korea. Upon the game’s official release, they plan to explore various approaches to marketing Korea to global users, such as introducing the real-life tourist destinations that served as the game’s backdrop.
Kim Young-mi, Head of the Tourism AI Innovation Division, stated, “The Korea Tourism Organization’s AI and high-value data are crucial assets that go beyond AI training to enable convergence and collaboration with various cross-industry sectors.” She added, “We hope that the beautiful Korean landscapes featured in ‘Uchi the Wayfarer,’ created using tourism data, will serve as an incentive for visitors to come to Korea.”
