Foreign Investors Dump 2 Trillion… Institutions Also Sell Nearly 1 Trillion
[Edaily Reporter Kim Kyung-eun ] The KOSPI extended its losses in the afternoon, slipping to the 6,800 level. Amid rising U.S. long-term Treasury yields and high oil prices, SamsungElectronics and SK hynix both plunged by more than 4%, dragging down the index.

According to MP Doctor on the 28th, as of 1:06 p.m. that day, the KOSPI was trading at 6,903.24, down 177.68 points (2.51%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 7,057.86, down 23.06 points (0.33%) from the previous close, and the decline steadily widened. At one point during the session, it fell as low as 6,896.80.
In the market, foreign investors and institutions were both net sellers. Foreign investors were net sellers of 2.0845 trillion won, while institutions were net sellers of 952.7 billion won; retail investors, on the other hand, were the sole net buyers, purchasing 1.9222 trillion won worth of stocks.
Although AI-related stocks rebounded on the New York Stock Exchange during the holiday period, the domestic stock market is being more significantly weighed down by rising U.S. long-term interest rates and international oil prices. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note surpassed 5.22% during trading on the 25th, hitting a 19-year high. International oil prices also fell temporarily following Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz but remain at high levels. Inflationary pressures stemming from high oil prices and concerns over the possibility of further U.S. interest rate hikes are dampening investor sentiment toward growth stocks.
In particular, selling pressure is concentrated on large-cap semiconductor stocks. SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 271,500 won, down 14,000 won (4.90%) from the previous trading day. SK hynix(000660)is trading at 1,776,000 won, down 86,000 won (4.62%).
For SK hynix, reports that its subsidiary, Solidigm, plans to pursue an initial public offering (IPO) in the U.S. as early as next year also acted as a negative factor. This is because concerns over dual listings and the potential dilution of value for minority shareholders are inevitable in the event of an IPO. At this time, SKSQUARE(402340)is trading at 1,102,000 won, down 88,000 won (7.39%) from the previous trading day.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ is trading at 850.11, up 5.63 points (0.67%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 845.48, up 1.00 point (0.12%) from the previous close, and appears to be continuing its upward trend.
In the KOSDAQ market, foreign investors are net buyers of 37.7 billion won, while institutions and individual investors are net sellers of 10.5 billion won and 26.0 billion won, respectively.
The two stocks with the highest market capitalizations are both on the rise. Alteogen Inc.(196170)is trading at 254,000 won, up 4,000 won (1.60%) from the previous trading day. ECOPRO CO., LTD(086520)is trading at 81,500 won, up 1,400 won (1.75%).
In addition, ECOPRO BM CO., LTD.(247540)(3.71%) and JUSUNG ENGINEERING Co.,Ltd.(036930)(0.95%) are among the gainers. Rainbow Robotics(277810)(-1.62%), WONIK IPS Co.,Ltd.(240810)(-5.76%), and EO Technics Co., Ltd.(039030)(-1.56%) are among the decliners.
