[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] SamsungElectronics announced on the 29th that it had aired a video on a digital billboard in New York’s Times Square congratulating Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, on receiving the “2026 James A. Van Fleet Award.”

From 6:00 p.m. on the 27th (local time) through the 28th, SamsungElectronics aired a video on the digital billboards in New York’s Times Square highlighting CEO Huang’s innovative leadership and his achievements in driving the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, while celebrating his award.

The Van Fleet Award was established by the non-profit organization The Korea Society and is named after General James Van Fleet, who served as commander of the U.S. Eighth Army during the Korean War. Each year, The Korea Society selects individuals or organizations that have contributed to promoting friendship and cooperation between South Korea and the United States and presents them with this award. CEO Huang was recognized for leading innovation in the fields of AI and accelerated computing and for his contributions to expanding cooperation between South Korea and the United States in the AI and semiconductor industries.

In a congratulatory video, SamsungElectronics highlighted CEO Hwang’s major activities and achievements, focusing on four keywords that symbolize him: △Pioneer, △Architect, △Builder, and △Friend. Another video showcased CEO Hwang’s key activities and vision against the backdrop of a virtual exhibition space.

SamsungElectronics and NVIDIA have maintained a long-standing collaborative relationship across various fields, including memory and system semiconductors. In particular, the AI alliance between SamsungElectronics and NVIDIA has been growing increasingly stronger recently.

SamsungElectronics is working to establish an “AI Factory” by combining NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and digital twin technologies with its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities to apply AI across the entire process—from research and development (R&D) to design and manufacturing.

SamsungElectronics is also a major supplier of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for NVIDIA’s next-generation AI accelerators. It is reported that HBM4 will be incorporated into NVIDIA’s next-generation AI platform, VeraRubin. SamsungElectronics’ foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) division is also producing “Groq 3 LPU (Language Processing Unit),” NVIDIA’s AI inference chip, using a 4-nanometer process.

Meanwhile, SamsungElectronics has deep ties to the Van Fleet Award. The late SamsungElectronics Chairman Lee Kun-Hee received the Van Fleet Award 20 years ago, in 2006, in recognition of his contributions to Korea-U.S. economic cooperation and the development of bilateral relations.
