[E-Daily Reporter Lee So-Hyun ] A 160-meter high-altitude slackline challenge taking place 120 meters above downtown Gwanghwamun in Seoul will be broadcast live via SOOP(067160). World-renowned slackliner Jaan Roose will perform a back-and-forth crossing between the Dong-A Media Center and the COREANA COSMETICS CO.,LTD, and SOOP will exclusively provide the live broadcast with commentary.

SOOP announced that it will live-stream the “Red Bull Seoul Slackline” event, taking place at the Gwanghwamun intersection in Seoul starting at 12:40 p.m. on October 1.

The performance will take place twice that day, at 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, and SOOP will broadcast the 1:00 PM attempt. Commentator Park Jae-min and announcer Seok Hyun Hong will provide commentary, explaining the slackline discipline, the athletes’ movements, and the on-site situation.

The “Red Bull Seoul Slackline” is an extreme sports performance that uses the entire city center as a venue.

Slacklining is a sport in which participants move while maintaining their balance on a narrow, flat rope stretched between two points. For this event, the rope will be set up on a high-altitude course connecting the Dong-A Media Center and the COREANA COSMETICS CO.,LTD. at the Gwanghwamun intersection.

Jan Rus, from Estonia, will attempt a round-trip crossing, starting at the Dong-A Media Center, using the Koreana Hotel as a turnaround point, and returning to the starting point.

The course is 160 meters one way, with an absolute elevation of 120 meters.

Three-time

World Champion… Even Crossed the Bosphorus Strait

Jan Rus is a three-time world champion in slacklining and holds numerous world records and firsts.

He is also known as the first athlete to successfully perform a “standing double backflip” on a slackline and has carried out high-altitude projects against the backdrop of landmarks and natural environments around the world.

In 2024, he became the first person to cross from Asia to Europe on a slackline by traversing a 1,074-meter section of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, Türkiye, in just 47 minutes.

That same year, he also attempted to cross the Strait of Messina—a distance of approximately 3.6 km connecting the Italian mainland to the island of Sicily. Although he lost his balance just before completing the crossing and it was not recognized as an official world record, he made history as the first person to traverse that stretch on a slackline.

In 2023, he also unveiled the “Sparkline” project, in which he crossed an approximately 150-meter-long LED slackline installed between buildings in Lusail, Qatar.

Jan Rus decided to stage this performance in Seoul after developing an interest in traditional tightrope walking during his visit to Korea in 2022.
