[Edaily Reporter Lee So-Hyun ] Naver (NAVER(035420)) has proposed utilizing its artificial intelligence (AI) and digital solutions as global collaboration tools for the UN Global Compact (UNGC). The plan is to support communication and digital transformation among the network of over 70 countries and participating companies through services such as Naver Works and Papago Plus.

Naver announced on the 30th that CEO Choi Soo-yeon attended the UNGC Board of Directors meeting held on the 19th (local time) at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA.

Key board members, including UN Secretary-General António Guterres and UNGC Executive Director Sanda O’Jambo, attended the meeting to discuss the role of businesses in sustainable development.

The UNGC is a corporate sustainability initiative involving approximately 25,000 companies and organizations from more than 100 countries worldwide. It supports corporate sustainability management based on 10 principles across four areas: human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.

Proposal to Utilize Naver Works and Papago Plus

During this visit, CEO Choi proposed exploring ways to utilize Naver’s AI and digital tools to strengthen collaboration within the UNGC’s global network.

The Daesang solutions included “NAVER WORKS,” a business collaboration platform from NAVER Cloud, and “Papago Plus,” an AI-based translation and interpretation service.

The aim is to support collaboration and communication across countries and regions as companies move their sustainability initiatives from declarations to implementation under the UNGC’s “2026–2030 Strategy.”

Naver plans to explore potential collaboration opportunities with the UNGC headquarters, its network spanning over 70 countries, and participating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The specific methods and timing of the collaboration will be determined through future discussions.

“We Will Lower Communication Barriers Between Countries and Regions Through AI”

Naver believes that by leveraging AI and digital technologies, it can strengthen cross-national collaboration and enhance the operational efficiency of the UNGC network.

CEO Choi stated, “To generate greater momentum for UNGC activities, an efficient collaboration system that breaks down barriers between countries and regions is essential,” adding, “I hope that Naver’s AI and digital technologies will help facilitate the digital transformation of UNGC local networks and accelerate global communication.”

Last September, CEO Choi was appointed to the UNGC Board of Directors—the first Korean to hold this position in 17 years. His three-year term will focus on activities related to responsible technology development, global digital cooperation, and the expansion of the sustainable business ecosystem.
