[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] LGELECTRONICS is launching a campaign to address global hunger and providing meal support to vulnerable groups in observance of World Food Day.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 15th that, in observance of World Food Day on October 16, it will screen a public service campaign video produced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on outdoor billboards in Times Square, New York, and Piccadilly Circus, London. The video will run from the 13th (local time) through the 23rd.

The video depicts Saramins from all over the world working to solve food issues. Through this, it conveys the message “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” signifying that everyone’s combined efforts lead to solutions for food challenges.

This campaign is part of “LG Hope Screen,” a global corporate social responsibility program that LGELECTRONICS has been running since 2011. LG Hope Screen uses LGELECTRONICS’ outdoor billboards in New York and London to screen public service videos produced by international organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), raising awareness of global issues.

LGELECTRONICS is also conducting meal support activities for vulnerable groups in key countries where it operates overseas. In Indonesia, the company provided meals to residents of the village of Pasir Langgu in West Java, which was hit by a landslide earlier this year. In collaboration with a local health center, it also supported growth monitoring and health checkups for affected children.

In India, the company launched the “Life’s Good Nutrition Menu Campaign” to address adolescent malnutrition, providing breakfast and lunch to 120,000 students in public schools across 16 states. It is also donating food supplies to vulnerable groups in countries such as Iraq and Singapore.

In South Korea, the company operates a “Donation Menu” program in which employees participate. The program offers a menu with fewer side dishes in the employee cafeteria, and a donation is accumulated each time an employee selects that menu. The accumulated donations are used for volunteer activities, such as providing food support to vulnerable groups.

Yoon Dae-sik, Executive Vice President of External Relations at LGELECTRONICS, said, “We will continue to carry out various activities to address hunger—such as expanding public welfare campaigns and providing meal support to vulnerable groups—and fulfill our role as a global corporate citizen.”
