Humanoid Robot Factory in Seongsu-dong… to Produce 100 Units Annually
Holiday Robotics Begins Mass Production of “Friday”
Pushing Ahead with a Two-Major-Production-System Strategy… Considering Additional Production Hubs
Pilot Projects in Three Sectors: Logistics, Semiconductors, and Auto Parts
[Edaily Reporter Shin Yeong-bin ] A factory producing humanoid robots has opened in Seoul’s Seongsu-dong, an area lined with cafes and pop-up stores.
According to the information technology (IT) industry on the 15th, the domestic robotics startup Holiday Robotics recently set up its own production line in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, and began manufacturing “Friday,” a humanoid robot it developed in-house. To date, the company has manufactured approximately 10 units, including both finished products and those currently in assembly.
Friday is an industrial humanoid that combines two arms and robotic hands with a wheeled mobility platform. It was developed to perform tasks such as moving and manipulating objects in logistics centers and manufacturing facilities.
The company aims to establish a production system capable of producing two units per week. Initially, the company produced robots one at a time while refining the design, but as the product structure has recently stabilized, it is shifting to a production method that involves manufacturing multiple units of the same version.
The company is also scouting for additional factory sites in preparation for future production expansion. A Holiday Robotics official explained, “As actual mass production and sales are imminent, we are looking at larger sites.”
Other domestic robotics companies are also expanding their production and sales of humanoids.
Rainbow Robotics(277810)has sold a cumulative total of more than 130 units of its wheeled, two-armed robot, the “RB-Y1,” as of the end of last year. According to this year’s interim report, the company’s annual production capacity for mobile humanoids is approximately 120 units.
ROBOTIS(108490)has sold approximately 200 units of its wheeled semi-humanoid “AI Worker” to external customers this year. This year’s production target is around 400 units. In addition to units for sale, the company is also using them to collect its own robot training data.
Robros has also secured production results. As of last August, the company had manufactured 36 “Egrys-C” units and signed sales contracts for 18 units. Of these, nine will be supplied to government pilot projects in the semiconductor, automotive, and logistics sectors.
Holiday Robotics is also currently conducting proof-of-concept (PoC) trials with companies in three sectors: logistics, semiconductors, and automotive parts. The goal is to deploy “Friday” in actual industrial settings starting next year.
A Holiday Robotics official stated, “Our original intention was to build robots that actually work in the field,” adding, “We need to prove in practice why they must be humanoid and why they need exceptional manual dexterity.”
