[Edaily Reporter KIM AH-REUM ] KCC Corporation(002380)is launching a resource recycling initiative to donate used safety helmets collected from all its business sites for use in manufacturing new safety helmets. The initiative aims to donate used safety helmets—which were originally used to protect workers—so that they can serve as resources for new products even after their useful life has ended, thereby contributing to the promotion of recycling industrial waste. (Photo = KCC Corporation) KCC Corporation announced on the 21st that it participated in the “Multilateral Memorandum of Understanding for Establishing a Circular Economy for Industrial Waste Resources,” held at COEX in Seoul. This agreement was jointly hosted and organized by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, the social enterprise Ussisan, and the Muhan Sangsa Social Cooperative. It was organized to expand the participating institutions and target items based on the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the upcycling of discarded safety helmets, and to strengthen the cooperative framework covering the entire process from the collection of industrial waste resources to their recycling and commercialization.
Under the agreement, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency will support the operation of the cooperative framework and the expansion of the project, while Usi-san will be responsible for the collection, recycling, and productization of waste resources. The discarded safety helmets donated by KCC Corporation will undergo a recycling process through Usi-san and be used as raw materials for new safety helmets.
The recycled safety helmets produced through this project obtained safety certification in December 2025 and environmental label certification in September 2026. The social enterprise Woosisan manufactures and sells new safety helmets from waste safety helmets donated by companies and institutions, while the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA) has obtained certification for its Scope 3 greenhouse gas reduction targets and allocates a portion of the proceeds to social contribution initiatives, thereby promoting both resource circulation and the creation of social value.
A KCC Corporation official stated, “It is meaningful that safety helmets that have served their purpose in industrial settings are being reused as resources for new safety helmets,” adding, “We will participate in resource circulation by encouraging donations of used safety helmets from all our workplaces and contribute to efforts to revitalize a circular economy system that leads to greenhouse gas reduction and social contribution.”
