Dexter Studio announced on the 27th that it provided technical support for the VFX (visual effects) and digital color grading (DI) of director Yeon Sang-ho’s new film, “Paradise Lost.”

“Paradise Lost” follows in the footsteps of director Yeon Sang-ho’s low-budget film project “Face,” which received critical acclaim last year. By participating in the VFX and DI work for both films, Dexter has contributed to the expansion of director Yeon Sang-ho’s cinematic universe.

Dexter has maintained a close collaborative relationship with Director Yeon Sang-ho, having contributed to the VFX, DI, and sound departments for many of his films. Starting with the film *Train to Busan*, the company has provided technical support for *Psychokinesis*, *Peninsula*, the Netflix series *Hellbound*, *Jeong-i*, *Parasite: The Gray*, *Revelation*, *Face*, and *Colony*. Through these contributions, Dexter has enhanced the quality of theatrical films and OTT content across a wide range of genres, from sci-fi and creature films to action, thrillers, and mysteries.

Dexter’s VFX Division meticulously fine-tuned the scope and expression of visual effects to effectively convey the essence of each scene, reflecting the unique characteristics of each project.

Hong Jeong-ho, Supervisor at Dexter’s VFX Division, who led the VFX team, explained, “We focused on expressing the visual differences between the real world and the world within the AI program, and on naturally rendering the characteristics of the virtual space.”

He added, “Through repeated collaboration with Director Yeon Sang-ho, who possesses exceptional insight in the field of VFX, we built a shared understanding that aligned our visual visions, allowing us to proceed smoothly with the work even within a limited budget.”

Dexter’s DI Division focused on creating the film’s unique atmosphere of unease and strangeness by utilizing the contrast between cool tones and vivid colors.

Lee Kyung-jong, a colorist at Dexter’s DI Division who handled digital color grading, said, “In the thriller genre, tension is often created by stripping away color and relying on darkness, but in ‘Paradise Lost,’ we brought to the screen a peculiar sense of unease created by adding high-saturation colors to a cool tone,” and “We adjusted the lighting and contrast to ensure that the characters’ expressions and on-screen details remained clearly visible even in dark scenes, thereby heightening the psychological tension,” he added.

Dexter collaborates with domestic and international production companies across the entire post-production spectrum—including VFX, DI, sound design and mixing, and virtual production—and is active in various fields such as theaters, OTT platforms, films, dramas, and animation.

The film “Paradise Lost,” which opened on the 21st, is a psychological thriller that begins when Ryu Seon-woo (played by Bae Hyun-sung)—whom his mother Ryu So-young (played by Kim Hyun-joo) had believed to be dead after losing him in a camping school bus disappearance nine years ago—miraculously returns alive.

The film has been officially invited to the Special Presentations section of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival and the 46th Hawaii International Film Festival, and has secured pre-sales in 118 countries overseas, raising anticipation both domestically and internationally.
