#SAMSUNG EPIS HOLDINGS announced on the 28th that its subsidiary, Samsung Bioepis, recorded revenue of 442.2 billion won and operating profit of 132.6 billion won in the third quarter of this year. Compared to the same period last year, revenue increased by 0.3% and operating profit by 2.8%. Compared to the previous quarter, they rose by 12.7% and 53.1%, respectively.
Excluding milestone payments, product sales totaled 416.5 billion won, with operating profit of 106.9 billion won. This represents increases of 4.1% and 21.3%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. Growth was driven by expanding global sales of the Soliris biosimilar “SB12” (active ingredient: eculizumab) and the Stelara biosimilar “SB17” (ustekinumab).
Cumulative revenue for the first three quarters of this year totaled 1.2893 trillion won, with operating profit at 363.2 billion won. The cumulative operating profit represents approximately 97% of last year’s full-year operating profit of 375.9 billion won.
Samsung Bioepis currently sells 11 biosimilars in the global market. As future growth drivers, the company is developing nine biosimilar candidates targeting blockbuster drugs nearing patent expiration, two antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) anticancer drugs, and one long-acting obesity treatment.
In particular, “SB27,” a biosimilar candidate for Keytruda, entered the domestic marketing authorization process in August, following the announcement of global Phase 3 clinical trial results last June.
The company is also expanding its sales partnerships. Earlier this month, it signed an agreement with Teva to market two biosimilar candidates—Pasenra and Ilaris—in major markets such as the U.S. and Europe. The strategy is to collaborate with global pharmaceutical companies from the early stages of development to devise sales strategies tailored to the products and markets.
Its first new drug candidate, the solid tumor treatment “SBE303,” entered global Phase 1 clinical trials in March of this year and recently received Fast Track designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The follow-up ADC candidate “SBE313” and the long-acting obesity treatment “SBE501” are in the preclinical stage.
Meanwhile, SAMSUNG EPIS HOLDINGS reported third-quarter revenue of 441.9 billion won and operating profit of 105.0 billion won. Samsung Bioepis’s financial results reflected non-cash accounting adjustments, such as the amortization of development costs resulting from purchase price allocation (PPA).
