Foreign Investors and Institutions Both Engage in “Joint Selling” in the 1 Trillion Won Range
Samsung and INICS Corporation Give Up Gains Even During 'Super Week'
[Edaily Reporter Kim Kyung-eun ] On the 6th, the KOSPI soared to the 8,300 level before plummeting back to the 7,800 level, as extreme market volatility continued. Despite major events such as SamsungElectronics’ announcement of its preliminary second-quarter earnings and SK hynix’s listing of American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the U.S., the index was dragged down by combined selling by foreign and institutional investors totaling around 1 trillion won.

According to MP Doctor, as of 1:20 p.m. today, the KOSPI was trading at 7,968.49, down 118.54 points (1.48%) from the previous trading day.
The index opened at 8,186.82, up 98.48 points (1.22%) from the previous close, and subsequently broke through the 8,200 and 8,300 levels in succession. At one point during the session, it rose as high as 8,237.26. However, it soon turned downward and fell as low as 7,815.53 during the session.
Although major events such as SamsungElectronics’ second-quarter earnings announcement and SK hynix’s ADR listing on the Nasdaq are upcoming, this mixed performance is attributed to conflicting investor sentiment amid ongoing concerns over an oversupply of artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.
Hwang Ji-woo, an analyst at SKSecurities, predicted, “SamsungElectronics’ preliminary earnings announcement is the key event this week,” adding, “If the effect of memory price hikes significantly exceeds expectations, there could be a shift toward AI-related stocks.” However, he added, “If the results fall somewhat short of expectations, the recent rotation trading pattern is likely to continue.”
In the KOSPI market, retail investors made net purchases of 2.2518 trillion won, while foreign and institutional investors made net sales of 1.2344 trillion won and 1.1108 trillion won, respectively.
