[Edaily Reporter kim mi-kyung ] HITEJINRO has taken the lead in helping residents of Seoul’s shantytowns stay healthy this summer amid the rainy season and heatwave.

HITEJINRO(000080)The company announced on the 24th that it held “Watermelon Day” on the 22nd at the Seoul Station shantytown, where it shared watermelons with residents. The event was attended by HITEJINRO employees, Lee Shin-ok, team leader at the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Yoo Ho-yeon, director of the Seoul Station Shantytown Counseling Center. Employees personally handed out watermelons to residents and checked in on their well-being, conveying their support.

During the “Watermelon Day” event held on the 22nd at the Seoul Station shantytown, HITEJINRO employees and officials from the Seoul Station Shantytown Counseling Center visited residents’ dwellings to deliver watermelons.

HITEJINRO has been providing support for over 13 years since signing a joint cooperation agreement with the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2013 to protect vulnerable housing groups.

Since last year, the company has been donating 500 portions of fresh food packages monthly through “Ongi Warehouse,” a food market tailored to shantytown residents, and plans to continue this initiative steadily in the second half of the year. This program is designed to help residents living in environments where cooking is difficult to access fresh food more easily. Reflecting residents’ feedback, the packages include seasonal fruits and vegetables to promote healthy eating habits.

Jang In-seop, CEO of HITEJINRO, stated, “The ‘Ongi Changgo’ Vitamin Packages are a corporate social responsibility initiative that goes beyond simply providing goods to help build a healthy daily life for residents,” adding, “We will continue to foster mutual growth with the local community through sustained efforts rather than one-time acts of generosity.”

HITEJINRO is operating the program in collaboration with “Mr. Appa,” a startup specializing in fresh food ingredients. The company plans to continue supporting healthy eating habits among shantytown residents by providing seasonal fresh food supplies.
