[Edaily Reporter YU JIN-HEE ] CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.(058820)is accelerating the commercialization of three next-generation functional materials secured through open innovation with the Cha Medical Research Institute (CHARI), and is now fully launching its push into the high-value-added healthcare market.
CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. announced on the 31st that it is pursuing the research, development, and commercialization of three next-generation functional materials developed through joint R&D with the Cha Medical Research Institute: △ “Chunseon-gwa Tree Leaf Extract” for improving cognitive function, △ “Phytoestrogen” for women’s menopause care, and △ “Colostrum EXO (EV)” for pet health management.
The ingredient on the fastest track to commercialization is the “Chunseon-gwa Tree Leaf Extract.” On June 4, CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. completed its application to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for recognition as an individually approved ingredient for health functional foods.
This natural substance, developed through joint research with the Cha Medical Research Institute, has been confirmed to inhibit the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) in the brain—known to be a cause of Alzheimer’s disease—and protect neurons, thereby improving memory and cognitive function.
Looking ahead, CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. plans to establish a Cheonsungwa tree cultivation complex in the Jeju region to ensure a stable supply of high-quality raw materials in preparation for obtaining individual recognition from the MFDS and the full-scale product launch. The company aims to build a value chain encompassing everything from raw material production to the manufacture of finished products.
In the women’s health sector, the development of “phytoestrogens” targeted at alleviating menopausal symptoms is progressing smoothly. Based on a fermented complex of kudzu root and black soybeans, this ingredient incorporates Cha Bio Group’s proprietary lactic acid bacteria fermentation technology. The key innovation is the conversion of active ingredients into a “non-glycoside” form that is easily absorbed by the body, thereby dramatically increasing bioavailability.
Currently, the company is conducting toxicity assessments to verify safety ahead of human clinical trials. Once these assessments are complete, it plans to proceed with clinical trials and then follow the registration process with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) for individual ingredient approval.
The commercialization of “colostrum EXO vesicles (EVs)”—targeted at the rapidly growing pet care market—is also taking shape. Colostrum EXO vesicles are a functional material that incorporates the cutting-edge extracellular vesicle separation and purification technology developed by the Cha Medical Research Institute.
CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. recently established a dedicated production facility for the raw material and obtained an official production license. Building on this, the company has begun developing premium pet healthcare products that comprehensively manage the joint, skin, and intestinal health of senior dogs and cats.
Lee Ju-hyung, CEO of CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., stated, “By combining CMG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.’s product development and commercialization capabilities with the outstanding bio-R&D capabilities of the Cha Bio Group—including the Cha Medical Research Institute—we are continuously creating differentiated, functional new materials,” adding “We will diversify our portfolio into high-profit healthcare sectors with significant future growth potential—such as longevity (reverse aging and anti-aging), women’s health, and pet care—to achieve both revenue growth and profitability,” he emphasized. ㅇㅕ
