[Edaily Reporter Kim Hyun-ah ] LG Uplus(032640) Bae Ju-hyeok, Chief Technology Officer of UCube’s DAX team, will participate as an international advisor for the cloud computing category at the WorldSkills Competition.

Mr. Bae will serve as an international advisor at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, to be held in Shanghai, China, from the 22nd to the 27th. This marks his third time participating in the cloud computing category at the WorldSkills Competition.

Since 2022, Bae has served as the head coach of the South Korean national team, supporting the athletes’ training and competition preparation. At the 2024 WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, he participated as the head coach of the South Korean national team and contributed to South Korea winning its first-ever silver medal in the Cloud Computing category.

At last year’s Asian Skills Olympics, he became the first Korean to serve as the chief judge for the Cloud Computing event. The chief judge is responsible for designing the competition tasks and procedures, as well as overseeing the overall operation of the event.

Cloud computing is a competition that tests participants’ ability to design, build, and operate information technology (IT) infrastructure in a cloud environment within a limited time frame. It was adopted as an official event at the WorldSkills Competition in 2019.

At this year’s Shanghai competition, 17 countries—including South Korea, China, Japan, Canada, Brazil, and Australia—will participate in the cloud computing event. Approximately 1,400 participants from over 70 countries and regions will compete in 64 events, including ICT, machinery, and construction, to demonstrate their technical skills.

Bae, the head of the delegation, said, “We will provide support so that South Korean competitors can demonstrate their best abilities and help showcase our country’s competitiveness in cloud technology to the world.”

Since first participating in the WorldSkills Competition in 1967, South Korea has claimed the overall championship 19 times. At the 2024 competition in Lyon, France, the country finished second overall behind China, and is now aiming for its 20th overall championship at this year’s competition in Shanghai.
