[Edaily Reporter Kim Ji-woo ] A contract worker in his 40s died while receiving treatment after being caught in a product loading machine at a factory operated by OTOKI SF, an affiliate of Ottogi(007310).

According to OTOKI on the 28th, an accident occurred at the OTOKI SF factory around 11:59 a.m. on the 21st, in which Namsung, a man in his 40s employed by the subcontractor Seobik, had his upper body caught in a robotizer. OTOKI SF is an affiliate of OTOKI that produces canned seafood and cup noodles, among other products.

The accident occurred during a loading test of the robotizer, which stacks export products onto pallets. According to the company, the equipment was shut down due to a problem with the pallet, and corrective measures were taken. After instructing workers to exit the work area, the equipment was restarted; however, the accident occurred because Mr. A, who was inside organizing products on the pallet, was not noticed.

Immediately after the accident, Mr. A was transported by an emergency ambulance to Gyeongnam National University Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a lumbar burst fracture that same afternoon. He later passed away around 10:30 p.m. on the 25th while receiving treatment in the trauma intensive care unit. The company stated that the causes of death were sepsis and acute renal failure.

Funeral arrangements were made in consultation with the bereaved family, and the funeral was held on the 28th. The company reported that the initial investigations by the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor have been completed.

An OTOKI spokesperson stated, “We are currently doing our utmost to ensure the psychological well-being of the bereaved family and plan to actively cooperate with future legal and administrative procedures,” adding, “We will pay close attention to showing proper respect for the deceased and their family and will do our very best in every way the company can.”
