[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] On the 14th, SamsungElectronics introduced a high-efficiency, low-carbon residential environment—combining heat pump heating and cooling technology with artificial intelligence (AI)-based energy management solutions—to Minister Kim Seong-hwan of the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment during his visit to the “Samsung AI Modular Home” model home in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. This visit was arranged to explore the potential applications of the Samsung AI Modular Home in conjunction with the Korean Green Transition (K-GX) policy.

During the visit, SamsungElectronics showcased next-generation energy solutions capable of achieving the electrification of heating and carbon reduction in the residential sector, ranging from energy savings in individual households to integrated energy management in large-scale residential complexes.

The “Samsung AI Modular Home” is a residential model that combines SamsungElectronics’ AI appliances and SmartThings-based solutions with modular housing, in which factory-prefabricated modules are assembled on-site. Appliances are pre-installed and registered during the module manufacturing stage, allowing residents to enjoy an optimized AI home environment immediately upon moving in.

The home is equipped with high-efficiency AI appliances, heat pump solutions, solar panels, and energy storage systems (ESS), all of which are interconnected. Through “SmartThings Energy,” SamsungElectronics’ energy management service, users can monitor and control solar power generation and electricity consumption in real time.

SamsungElectronics also introduced the core technology behind its “EHS All-in-One” heat pump solution, which is set to launch in Korea soon. The EHS All-in-One is a product that provides indoor cooling, floor heating, and hot water all from a single outdoor unit. It is designed to maximize the usability of living space by reducing the space required for the outdoor unit.

In particular, energy efficiency has been enhanced through the application of “Heat Recovery” technology, which reuses waste heat generated during the cooling process to produce hot water. This solution can be applied not only to single-family homes but also to multi-unit residential buildings such as apartments.

Overseas implementation cases were also presented. SamsungElectronics highlighted a project in Cornwall, UK, where high-efficiency, low-carbon residential solutions were implemented in a 1,500-unit housing complex. The complex features an energy system that combines heat pump solutions with solar power and an energy storage system (ESS). By implementing SmartThings Pro—an integrated management solution designed exclusively for business-to-business (B2B) use—the company enabled the integrated monitoring and control of energy usage across the entire complex, from individual households to public facilities.

SamsungElectronics plans to aggressively expand its business in the domestic market as well, focusing on heat pumps and combining high-efficiency home appliances with AI-based energy management solutions. Through this, the company intends to actively participate in the government’s push for the electrification of heating and national-level low-carbon transition policies.
