The company plans to transform itself into a specialized high-performance materials firm by adding advanced materials for information technology (IT) and electronic devices to its existing business portfolio—which has traditionally focused on automotive and construction materials—and by increasing new orders. BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. announced on the 27th that it has begun full-scale supply of the initial batch of high-performance films for tablet PC covers—commercialized after approximately one year of research and development (R&D)—to Logitech, a leading global manufacturer of computer peripherals. The company plans to fully launch its high-performance materials business following this shipment. The company has also made large-scale facility investments to ensure the smooth mass production of the new materials. It invested 2.1 billion won in its third plant, located in the Jungwon Industrial Complex in Chungju, North Chungcheong Province, to construct a new 660-square-meter building and install ultra-precision coating equipment. Construction began last July, and the equipment installation was completed in mid-October. In addition, the company invested 4.7 billion won to expand the T-die production line at its fifth plant in Chungju. This facility has begun operations after completing safety certification and material quality verification procedures. Through the expansion of its third and fifth plants, the company has further solidified its production base for advanced materials while acquiring the manufacturing capacity to proactively respond to future increases in demand. Using the supply to Logitech as a starting point, the company is also actively diversifying its customer base to include major domestic and international IT and smart device manufacturers. It is currently conducting product reliability evaluations with numerous global IT companies and is sequentially making initial deliveries of items that have completed performance verification. Results are also becoming visible in the transfer printing paper and printing film sectors. BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD. has secured a new annual order of 1.3 million square meters from a major domestic building materials company and began initial mass production this month. Transfer printing paper and printing film are core materials used in a wide range of plastic films, including those for electronic products, building materials, and automotive interior and exterior trim. The company has long been producing and supplying transfer printing paper for SPC flooring supplied to LX HAUSYS, LTD. using its proprietary technology. The company explains that, as recognition of the quality and technical expertise built through this partnership has led to an expansion of the product range, overall production volume has also increased significantly. As of last year, high-performance materials accounted for about 7% of BOWON CHEMICAL CO.,LTD.’s total revenue. The company plans to expand its product lineup—including the tablet PC cover material, keyboard skins, transfer printing paper, printed films, and encapsulation films for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and solar cells—to increase the revenue share of this business segment to 30%.
