Earlier that day, the company issued a press release stating, “Through this project, we have accumulated technical expertise and process data across the entire spectrum of all-solid-state battery development—from material application to cell design, fabrication, and performance evaluation—further strengthening the technological foundation for the future commercialization of all-solid-state batteries.” This project, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, focused on developing nano-membrane-based thin-film polymer electrolytes and separators, and verifying their performance and commercial viability by applying them to actual all-solid-state batteries. Participants included the lead institution, Yeonwoo, as well as SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. Battery Business Division, CK Chem, LEMON COMPANY LIMITED, Yonsei University, Konkuk University, and Kyung Hee University. SM BEXEL CO.,LTD., which participated as the end-user company, applied the developed nano-membrane-based polymer electrolyte to actual all-solid-state batteries and carried out battery design, manufacturing, and performance evaluation. Through this, the company focused on verifying the cell applicability of the all-solid-state separator material, establishing a foundation for future material supply cooperation, and securing all-solid-state battery manufacturing technology. As a result of the project, SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. manufactured and evaluated small-sized pouch-type all-solid-state batteries, confirming their potential for commercial application. Through research on electrode design, formulation ratios, and manufacturing methods, the company ensured the stability of the battery manufacturing process and demonstrated the potential to scale up the process from laboratory scale to a pilot plant. In addition, the company conducted a total of three accredited certification evaluations to verify the safety of the developed technology. SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. plans to actively utilize the experimental data, process conditions, and results of the accredited certification evaluations it has secured in its follow-up research and development. Based on this, the company intends to establish design standards that ensure safety and reliability and pursue technological advancement through prototype production, process improvement, and industry validation. SM BEXEL CO.,LTD. emphasized, “Through this government-funded project, we have gained technical expertise in applying nano-membrane-based polymer electrolytes to actual all-solid-state batteries and conducting processes ranging from cell fabrication to performance evaluation.” The official added, “Based on the accumulated process data and evaluation results, we will proceed in stages with pilot production and prototype verification to strengthen our technological competitiveness for the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries.”
