Cellbion Co., Ltd Selected for Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s National R&D Project on “AI-Based Radiopharmaceutical Development”

The goal of this project is to build a digital platform that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to design peptide-radioisotope conjugates (PRCs) for precision cancer diagnosis and targeted therapy, and to link this process all the way through to actual manufacturing.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Bio-Industry Technology Development Program supports the development of core source technologies essential for industrialization in the biohealth sector, with the goal of fostering future new industries and strengthening the competitiveness of high-tech industries.

Cellbion Co., Ltd. will serve as the lead research and development institution for this project, conducting research in collaboration with Seoul National University Hospital, the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), and HITS. The project combines Cellbion Co., Ltd.’s radiopharmaceutical manufacturing and validation infrastructure with HITS’ generative AI molecular design technology, KETI’s HITL-AI data system, and Seoul National University Hospital’s preclinical and clinical validation capabilities.

The research will utilize HITL-AI (Human-in-the-Loop AI) technology, which incorporates expert feedback into the AI learning and decision-making processes. Through this, the project aims to improve the efficiency of designing and evaluating cancer-targeted peptide candidates and to establish suitable radiolabeling and manufacturing conditions for these candidates.

Cellbion Co., Ltd. will not stop at candidate design and screening but will establish technology applicable to actual radiopharmaceutical manufacturing processes and proceed with manufacturing validation. The company plans to expand this into a platform that can be utilized for discovering new cancer-targeted radiopharmaceutical pipelines in the future.

The company plans to utilize its in-house radiopharmaceutical-dedicated Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities, as well as the process know-how acquired during the development of its clinical pipeline, for this project.

A Cellbion Co., Ltd official stated, “Through this government-funded project, we have integrated AI technology based on Cellbion Co., Ltd’s accumulated R&D and manufacturing capabilities in radiopharmaceuticals, as well as the process know-how gained from our in-house GMP manufacturing facility dedicated to radiopharmaceuticals and the development of numerous clinical pipelines.” The official added, “We will collaborate with partner research institutions to build a platform that spans from candidate discovery to manufacturing validation, and we intend to utilize it to expand our pipeline of new radiopharmaceuticals in the future.”
