Celltrion announced on the 13th that it will participate in WAC 2026, taking place from the 15th to the 18th at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Japan.

WAC is a global academic conference on allergy and immunology hosted by the World Allergy Organization (WAO). This year’s event is being co-hosted with the Japanese Society of Allergy (JSA) and the Asia-Pacific Academy of Pediatric Allergy, Respiratory and Immunology (APAPARI), and approximately 7,000 healthcare professionals from around the world are expected to attend.

Celltrion plans to set up a corporate booth at the venue to present clinical data and highlight the product competitiveness of Omriclo. The company also plans to showcase its global manufacturing and supply capabilities.

Omliclo is a biosimilar of the originator drug “Xolair” (active ingredient: omalizumab). In March, it received marketing authorization in Japan for the treatment of bronchial asthma, chronic idiopathic urticaria (CSU), and seasonal allergic rhinitis. Following its inclusion in the national drug price list, the company is currently preparing for its local launch.

On the 16th, the day after the conference, Celltrion will also host an academic seminar titled “Expanding Treatment Options Through Biosimilars: The Future of Asthma and Allergic Rhinitis Treatment.” The seminar, aimed at approximately 400 healthcare professionals, will share experiences with the use of omalizumab in Japanese allergy clinics and discuss the clinical value of biosimilars.

During the panel discussion, Professor Emeritus Kimihiro Okubo of Nippon Medical School will moderate a Q&A session on biosimilars.

Celltrion’s strategy is to expand local sales of Omriclo by leveraging the market share of its existing products in Japan.

According to pharmaceutical market research firm IQVIA, Celltrion’s autoimmune disease treatment “Remsima” (active ingredient: infliximab) recorded a 48% market share in Japan this past July, surpassing the originator drug to take the top spot. “Uplima” (active ingredient: adalimumab) also took the lead among biosimilars during the same period with a 21% market share.

The Japanese market shares for the anticancer drugs “Herzuma” (active ingredient: trastuzumab) and “Vexzelma” (active ingredient: bevacizumab) stood at 78% and 64%, respectively.

Previously, Omriclo was launched in Europe last September as a first-mover biosimilar and recorded a market share of 21% as of the first quarter of this year. Global sales for the first half of this year totaled 188.4 billion won. It was launched in the U.S. on the 5th (local time), and the company plans to expand its sales into major markets, including Japan.

A Celltrion spokesperson stated, “This global joint academic conference will be an important opportunity to showcase Omriclo’s therapeutic efficacy and competitiveness as a first-mover to leading allergists and healthcare professionals worldwide,” adding, “Building on the trust and direct-to-consumer sales infrastructure established in Japan by products such as Remsima and Herzuma, we will strive to ensure that Omriclo also gains a firm foothold in the Japanese allergy treatment market at an early stage.”
