Demonstration Data Collected for Transition to Electric Heating and Cooling in Multi-Unit Housing
[Edaily Reporter JAEMIN SONG ] SamsungElectronics is accelerating the expansion of electric heating and cooling systems by conducting a demonstration of a high-efficiency heat pump heating and cooling system in a multi-unit residential setting.

(Photo courtesy of SamsungElectronics) According to SamsungElectronics on the 27th, the company has been conducting a demonstration of its “EHS All-in-One” heat pump heating and cooling system for multi-unit housing at the SAMSUNG C&T CORPORATION Residential Performance Research Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, starting this month. The company is comprehensively verifying the system’s heating, cooling, and hot water performance, energy efficiency, and ease of use in an environment replicating that of an actual apartment complex.
Through this demonstration, SamsungElectronics plans to evaluate heating performance and energy savings compared to conventional gas boilers, as well as cooling and hot water performance, power consumption, and noise levels. The data collected from the demonstration will serve as foundational information for the future rollout of heat pumps in apartment complexes.

(Photo: SamsungElectronics) The “EHS All-in-One” product, currently sold in the European market, will be used for the demonstration. It is characterized by providing both air cooling (A2A) and floor heating and hot water supply (A2W) simultaneously using a single outdoor unit. While existing residential heat pumps in Korea could only provide floor heating and hot water supply—requiring a separate air conditioner for cooling—the EHS All-in-One integrates cooling, heating, and hot water supply into a single system.
The product also incorporates “Heat Recovery” technology, which utilizes waste heat generated during the cooling process to produce hot water. According to the company, this technology reduces electricity consumption by utilizing heat that would otherwise be wasted during summer cooling for hot water production, and it enables the system to utilize more than twice as much thermal energy compared to conventional methods. Additionally, the system uses R32 refrigerant, which has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) approximately 68% lower than the conventional R410A refrigerant, thereby enhancing its environmental friendliness.

(Photo: SamsungElectronics) Lim Seong-taek, Executive Vice President of SamsungElectronics’ DA Business Division, said, “This demonstration project verifies whether heat pumps can effectively replace existing gas boilers in real-world apartment complex environments.” He added, “Based on the data collected, we plan to continue expanding the development and adoption of heat pump technology to facilitate the transition to electric heating and cooling in apartment complexes and achieve carbon neutrality in the building sector.”
