[Edaily Reporter SOYEON KIM ] LGELECTRONICS is set to enter the global traffic safety market by unveiling a traffic safety solution that combines Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) technologies.

LGELECTRONICS announced on the 20th that it will participate in the “2026 ITS World Congress,” taking place in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, from the 19th to the 23rd, to unveil its next-generation integrated traffic safety solution.

The ITS World Congress is the world’s largest event where experts from governments, companies, and academia share technologies and policies in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

At this event, LGELECTRONICS will demonstrate an integrated traffic safety solution combining V2X and V2N on actual roads. Participants will board the demonstration vehicle and drive a 2.6-kilometer route, experiencing how the vehicle detects and alerts the driver in advance to situations such as broken-down or stopped vehicles, road construction, inclement weather, approaching ambulances, and the risk of pedestrian collisions.

V2X is a technology that enables vehicles to exchange information directly with surrounding entities, such as other vehicles or road infrastructure. Since it does not rely on a separate mobile communication network, it allows for rapid information transmission. Installing a single relay station effectively allows it to function as a traffic control center for passing vehicles in the vicinity. V2N is a technology that uses mobile communication networks to connect vehicles to networks and cloud servers, enabling the provision of traffic and weather information across a wider area.

LGELECTRONICS has combined these two technologies to create a complementary system that leverages V2X’s rapid response time and V2N’s wide service coverage. Within the communication range of roadside base stations, information collected via both methods is utilized together; in areas where direct communication is difficult, hazard information is provided via V2N. This ensures that vehicles can continuously detect surrounding hazards even as communication conditions change.

The company explained that this solution meets the highest safety rating standards of Euro NCAP, the European New Car Assessment Program. It is also expected to contribute to automakers’ efforts to meet safety evaluation requirements and their transition to software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

LGELECTRONICS is enhancing its technological competitiveness in the field of vehicle communications. Recently, it became the first in the industry to apply a smart telematics solution based on Release 16 (R16)—the latest standard for 5th-generation mobile communications (5G)—to a mass-produced European vehicle model. It also unveiled a next-generation hybrid emergency call system that supports networks from 2G to 5G.

In addition, the company is supplying a vehicle communication control system to the Genesis GV90, a full-size electric SUV, that supports remote control and over-the-air software updates.
