[Edaily Reporter Kwon Oh Seok ] The KOSPI is rebounding, buoyed by last night’s gains on the New York Stock Exchange. Major indices are displayed on an electronic board in the Hana Bank trading room in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 27th. (Photo = Newsis) According to MP Doctor on the 27th, the KOSPI opened at 5,658.65, up 189.18 points (3.46%) from the previous trading day, and as of 9:20 a.m., it is trading at 5,701.77, up 232.30 points (4.25%). So far today, retail and institutional investors have been net sellers of 341.3 billion won and 10.8 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors alone have been net buyers of 343.3 billion won. By trading type, combined arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades show a net buying position of 332.3 billion won. U.S. stock markets in New York closed higher yesterday. On the 26th (local time), the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index closed at 26,169.38, up 0.83% from the previous trading day. The S&P 500 Index rose 0.70% to 7,676.77, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.28% to 52,361.58. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq rebounded after posting weekly declines for two consecutive weeks. This rally is believed to have been driven by news that U.S. artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic is moving forward with an initial public offering (IPO), which has revived investor sentiment toward AI. Previously, Anthropic—the U.S.-based developer of the generative AI chatbot “Claude”—submitted a registration statement to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), marking the start of the formal IPO process. The proposed ticker symbol is “ANT,” and Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley are serving as lead underwriters for the listing. The specific number of shares to be offered and the proposed price range will be determined at a later date. According to the filed registration statement, Anthropic’s revenue for the first half of this year was $16.3 billion (approximately 21.62 trillion won), a nearly 13.6-fold surge compared to the same period last year ($1.2 billion). This was driven by a sharp increase in the adoption of enterprise AI solutions and coding tools for developers. The operating loss was limited to approximately $693 million. Consequently, buying momentum is flowing into major domestic semiconductor stocks. As of this writing, SamsungElectronics(005930)is trading at 223,750 won, up 10,750 won (5.05%) from the previous trading day, while SK hynix(000660)is trading at 1,371,000 won, up 96,000 won (7.53%). Han Ji-young, an analyst at KIWOOM Securities, said, “As we have reaffirmed that improvements in AI model performance and customer expansion are leading to actual growth in service revenue, we believe this has alleviated, to some extent, the concerns regarding AI monetization that have recently been raised in the market.” She added, “From a short-term perspective, whether the earnings reports from hyperscalers scheduled for this week can demonstrate the sustainability of AI investments will determine the short-term price resilience of domestic and international semiconductor and AI stocks.” Earnings reports from major hyperscalers such as Amazon, Alphabet, and Microsoft are scheduled to be released one after another this week. Meanwhile, the KOSDAQ index opened at 743.09, down 15.88 points (2.18%) from the previous trading day, and is currently trading at 752.62, up 25.41 points (3.49%) at the same time. So far today, retail investors alone have been net sellers of 64 billion won on the KOSDAQ market, while foreign and institutional investors have been net buyers of 66.1 billion won and 2.1 billion won, respectively. By trading type, combined arbitrage and non-arbitrage trades show a net selling position of 62.5 billion won.
